Connecting an IPOD

Looking at getting an IPOD in the next few weeks, what cable do I need to connect it to the socket in the FL2? Does it have to be purchased through a dealer or any retail store?

Finally has anyone had problems with running an IPOD through their FL2? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

A standard 2.5mm jack to jack rom any Dixons etc will do it but tot get a better sound try one of the charging /FM transmitter types like Belkins , that plug into the cig lighter socket ,again from any high street audio outlet Thumbs Up

Example shown below. Got mine through Amazon for around £15. Has advantage of charging as you go and also easy to skip tracks and view info on screen Thumbs Up

Most electrical stores sell simple 3.5mm (I think tandemman meant 3.5mm not 2.5mm) cables that will sort you out. It's worth paying a few quid extra for a decent quality one such as a Belkin. A tip when you play your ipod on the AUX setting - turn the ipod to max volume otherwise you have to turn the stereo up higher than normal and that'll give you a shock when you switch back to the radio! When you listen thru an ipod you can have the stereo on the dpl (dolby pro logic) setting which gives awesome quality sound especially when yu turn it up LOUD Thumbs Up 08 Santorini Black HSE manual with DAB and privacy glass

I would disagree about better sound coming from any FM transmitter compared to a direct connection with a jack cable to the ipod. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

Tried both methods (cable & Charger/radio type) and can honestly say that there is no difference in audio quality coming from the speakers.

Big advantage is that you don't have cables going all over the place. I'll post a pic later when I get my camera out. ______________________

If you are feeling a little richer, you can get a fitted kit for about £160, bu they now do it where it sits in your glove box, and control it from the head unit, rather than mounting it on the dash, so it can always be there, and used.

Try the TuneFlex adaptor for Aux input. Here is mine with my iPhone, but also accomodates my IPod 30Gb. The sound is just fine! Thumbs Up

Most, if not all the Belkin charging FM types also have an option of a cable link if he signal is poor Thumbs Up

My "Griffin RoadTrip with SmartScan" http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TQ046ZM/...co=MTU3MjA (bought from Apple Store on eBay) works perfectly with the AUX-cable connected, but when just using the FM frequency you are dependent that there is enough free frequency space. If there is not enough FM space the reception tends to be rather poor (in populated Norway that is). The aux-cable was not supplied with the Griffin, but I got one supplied direct from Griffin in the USA for free - great service Thumbs Up

For me it is a matter that I have all of my tunes on my ipod as lossless and so don't want any "noise" messing with my songs before they pour out of the Alpine speakers, which is why having used a belkin FM transmitter in the past I am not pro them.....but maybe the quality issue it is mostly in my head! Laughing Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!
