Internal space

I had the pleasure of visiting my local dealer and seeing their brand new showroom yesterday and I was looking at all the models up close. It may be my but it looked like the only vehicle that has got noticeably more internal room than the FL2, especially with the seats down is the D4? Even the RR vogues looked a comparable internal load space to the FL2, I was quite surprised. The RR sport looked considerably less space with the low roof and as for the Evoke, do they supply a shoe horn!?
On quick inspection it just seemed odd that the larger vehicles like the RRs didn't seem any bigger inside, anyone know any different as it may be just me!?

I think with many brands what happens is externally they are bigger for status and internally they are more opulent, or padded to you and I, keeps them quieter.
The dimensions on the brochures will reveal the actual numbers.

Also worth noting is that cars with exceptionally large interior space feel uncomfortable, they don't cosset the passengers, so appearances can be deceptive, go back and look how thick the overall doors and then imagine if those doors where as thick as an old mini door, you would probably seat 4 people across the rear seat.

Yes agree, it just struck me that the RRs look a lot bigger from the outside but looking inside, especially at the rear boot and imagining the seats down that the space would be about the same as in the FL2. Which I suppose is a good thing, at least for me as I need as much space as possible.

See, I knew it was big!
Ed, how does it compare to your RRs you have in the family? Are they the newer shape?
Cheers, Rich.

The Freelander 2
Rear seats up 755 litres
Rear seats folded 1,670 litres (good size my pics shows)

Discovery Sport
Rear seats up 981 litres
Rear seats folded 1698 litres

Range Rover Sport MY13>

Seats up 784 litres
Seats Forward 1761 litres

Range Rover MY13> 909 litres. Not sure from memory what it is fully folded (dont have one of these in family)

Discovery 3/4 2558 litres all rear seats full folded

The thing about boot space is thats its all very well stating the capacity in litres BUT in real life is our lugguage/items we transport in our LR's flat pack furniture, fridges, dishwashers etc will they mould into all these spaces to make use of the extra space? Especially if you have a sloping roof!

A fair test would be to get box boxes of various sizes and load these cars up and see what can fit without damaging the boxes may try and do a test like this to show the results.

I don't get to drive my mums RRS often and when I have had it out I have not really used the boot to be honest

The Disco is the daddy for carrying luggaage due to its box like internal and external shape which is clearly shown in these findings. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Yes my mate has a D3 and I am jealous of the loading space, although he can keep all the other issues Laughing . I am surprised by those figures, although as you say what appears bigger on paper might not always be like that in reality.

I'm sure there used to be a website that showed you how many boxes you could fit in a car. If I find it I will post the link.

Real world scenarios are better, who carries a load of boxes?

Boxes full of wine...In that case I can confirm that during a recent trip through Calais the Freelander fitted 20 cases of wine, two large suitcases, two overnight bags, two small rucksacks and an assortment of the usual rubbish that comes with you on holiday. I reckon if I'd been allowed we could have packed a further two or three cases of wine.
