Unbelievable!! Even if I drive my TD4 manual like Mother Theresa I get nowhere near those kind of figs. I have failed in 7,500 miles to get 500 miles out of a tank (and that's running it down to fumes). Big Cry It seems to me that some engines (same spec/tramsmission etc) will do more mpg than others. Come on LR sort it out - I've never come across a car with such huge discrepancies. 08 Santorini Black HSE manual with DAB and privacy glass

Mazda reckoned 25mpg combined & I never got more than 19mpg!!! I've been driving my FL2 like a granny to see what mpg is possible, but only 30min max journeys, done 230 miles so far and range left is 330 Thumbs Up and showing 35.3mpg (manual) Not even sure what noise the engine makes at 2500rpm Laughing as I change up at 2000rpm & coast to traffic lights etc in neutral Shocked

Must be down to driving style, since i started checking (only 2wks ago) the very best I've had is 27 mpg with my normal 'Brisk' driving style, my pal used it yesterday did 211 miles and averaged 33.9!

P.s mines superchipped to 190 bhp, 484 nms
Done 21k now (1 service +2 oil changes)

For Podcast - I think it is better not to coast anywhere! I have heard it said that modern engines don't use fuel when in gear and accelerator peddle is not depressed.
In neutral and rolling (although the ECU may tell different), the engine thinks the car is stopped and uses fuel for tickover.
When approaching traffic lights, I would recommend leaving it in gear as it slows down. Aids braking too. FL2 TD4 XS Santorini

Fair comment but engine braking is only needed if you can't coast up to a junction and need abit of extra retardation. Surely 2000rpm use more fuel than 800rpm & the mpg gauge always ticks up 0.1 when I do it?

I agree that if you use the engine braking momentum of the car when slowing, it uses less fuel than ticking over with the clutch dipped and coasting to a halt Thumbs Up

And Dave have you been buying a tiny camera as you seem to be posting tiny pictures? If the road signs wernt in the shot I would have said a tiny grey and white camera at that Laughing At work

Dave,

Don't 'coast' in 'neutral' for two reasons.

First from a fuel consumption point of view the car will use more fuel (ok maybe not a lot but more never the less it WILL use more) than staying in gear and going onto overrun.

Second, from the view of car control (as agreed by ROSPA, IAM, police driver training manuals) you are not fully in control when in neutral.

As many members of this forum will know I’m a bit an ‘eco’ driving specialist. My car has averaged 37.8 mpg over 42k miles which I think is pretty good. I’ve got a number of journeys under my belt at +44mpg, I have never adopted the coast in neutral policy: I can’t it goes against every bit of further/advanced driver training I’ve done in the last 30 years ….. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!
Company cars ... a thing of the past - May 2013.
