I have to say, £600-£700 a year is more than I had hoped the car would cost outside of service/mot/worn parts and the odd issue. But I suppose the £3k I would lose by selling is quite a few years warranty... FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎

I'm discounting servicing etc as Id need to do that on any car I bought, but it is just the concern that so far it has been very problematic and I don't want that to continue outside of the warranty. But I could replace it with something just as bad! FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

if your going to be strapped for cash over the next year or two due to the house move, etc I would be inclined to get rid of it.

trade it in for something brand new with a warranty, to give you peace of mind, the Skoda Yeti springs to mind.

What I would add is out of the cars I have driven, being a Micra, Sportage, A4 and the Fl2, I adore it. I would hate to drive one of the others. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

It's the old problem that you buy a used car and you are buying someone else's problems ie why are they getting rid of it? With that logic you at least know your car's history now and should keep it. I take the view now that if I want a nice car then it's going to be expensive whether it's a LandRover, Merc, BMW, Porsche etc

I was once told that you should never buy a car that is just out of warranty except from a main dealer as the dealers will shift cars of dodgy provenance through the trade rather than bother with them. That was the case with my 10 reg which bought from a small garage saving a few £k on dealer prices with a 3 month warranty and proved a nightmare after 6 months. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

That was my other option when I went for the FL2. Boot was too small for my needs at the time (double buggy and scooter etc) but would be fine now. But I struggled to find one on budget at the time due to popularity of used models. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I would get rid, if funds are tight then there are far cheaper alternatives out there, the FL2 has poor economy, high servicing costs (unless you go the indie route), high road tax and if anything mechanical goes wrong it is usually an expensive bill.

Personally I would keep it, you like the FL2, its suits your purposes and now you have had the warranty work done, that work will be guaranteed for a further 12 months at least.
Hammer the warranty repairs for the remainder of the term and then maybe take out an independant warranty, a mate of mine took out Warranty Direct on his Disco 3 and for £500 a year got over £4k of repairs done.

You know the car, you know its character and you now know what state it is in. The cost to change, plus the added stresses of finding a replacement (which you dont know the history of) coupled with the stresses of moving arent worth it.
If you find that it still isnt floating your boat in 12 months time then look at shifting it on.

Lots of different opinions here Smile thank you.

I sort of agree with all of you. There are risks with both options. I could lose money getting a different car which too could have problems. Or I could keep this and hope there are no more major faults. Or pay a fair amount of money for an extended warranty in order to potentially save money.

Could always harass LRCS to extend my warranty seeing as I seem to have bought a lemon Wink look out for flying pigs. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

RogB - I think I read on here somewhere that warranty repairs don't carry the 12 month guarantee you'd expect on a repair you pay for. I could be wrong though. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

wouldnt put it past the warranty company to wriggle out of it somehow, however i should hope the replacement parts are covered by at least a 12 month guarantee leaving the labour costs to haggle over.

If the repair was on the LR warranty supplied by an LR dealership then the repair is warranted for 1year, again we look at the SOG, the repairing dealer/repairer is liable, the warranty guarantor only pays for the repair to the supplying dealer/repairer.
Whether to rid is more complicated, you take a loss on the FL, you then buy another vehicle, if new a big loss in the first years, your deal really depends on the cost of the replacement, the cheaper it is the greater the loss on the FL. Personally as your mileage is low is get another warranty and keep the car, but you want a basic warranty, too many about that offer cover you don't need, like hotel bills and exclusions on sunroofs. Had one company that offered comprehensive cover at over £800 on OH's Micra CC with hotel, recovery, loss of this and that, but no cover on the folding roof, and wondered why I refused. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

For completeness, I thought I would update this.

After a failed aux socket (small thing I know but still annoying) and now a squealing front window, I have decided the car has to go. We are about to move to a new home with very different driving requirements and will be getting rid of our other car too and go down to 1 car. However the FL2 has proved to be too unreliable for the main family car and as the runs will be much shorter, a diesel with a DPF isnt the best choice anyway.

so with the funds from both cars we will get something more suitable. No idea what that is going to be though! FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
