Windscreen Replacement - OEM or Patten?

Well due to the wonderful high quality work of the Norfolk Highways Agency spreading chipping's and very little tar on our roads I know have a fairly large chip in the center of my windscreen, spoke to Hastings Insurance today and they put me onto there approved repairer Auto Windscreens. Spend a while explaining to the guy there and he said they should be able to repair the chip subject to seeing it, however If not a new screen will be the order of the day. Apparently though it will not be a genuine LR one just a pattern copy! Phoned back Hastings Insurance and they told me the same and that was all my fully comp insurance was entitled to Question

I seem to remember reading here somewhere in another thread that that might not be correct and as it is an original screen in there at the moment it should be replaced on a same for same basis!

Just wondered if any of you guys had any thoughts or experiences on this and how I legally stand, obviously if I do not use there approved supplier my glass excess goes sky high.

Appreciate any views on this one please as its booked in for next Tuesday.

Cheers. Norfolk Pikeman

If you have a heated front screen then only buy a genuine Land Rover replacement, the aftermarket ones of that type tend to be a bit unreliable in service as far as the heating elements go.

Hi,

I cracked mine and went direct to auto glass and told them I'd like OEM. They got it agreed with insurance. Had to wait a while longer but well worth it in my opinion.

Yep. Tell 'em you insured an OEM screen so that's what you want fitted.

After two copy screens not being fit for purpose Autoglass finally fitted a Land Rover screen to mine this year.

Don't take their "from the same factory" rubbish, the screens are not the same!

I had a screen in my old Freelander 2, and because it was an OE screen it was replaced with an OE screen. Auto glass also told me that the cost of the OE screen was not that much different to a copy and therefore didn't need to get the insurance to authorise it. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Had similar experience with our Merc C Class, Royal Bank insurance sent car to Mercedes approved repairer, repairs were for storm damage, who in their literature stated "only genuine manufacturers parts used"
Car came back with Autoglass screen, after lots of arguments it was changed to genuine Mercedes screen.
The original screen was not damaged in any way, it was removed to paint pillar, funny thing was that when they changed screen for OE one they removed screen in 10 minutes with special tools and did not damage it.
RBS insurance backed me on this matter, it was coachwork in cahoots with Autogless that was the problem.
Got a cheque for £100 from RBS as compensation for all troubles. Equivalent to my excess. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

I would phone Tesco to confirm as Autoglass will always try and fit a pattern screen even if it means lying!

Don't allow them to fit the solaflare window as it is not the same glass.

The insurance-nominated guy from Glassline who fitted my replacement pointed out that it is a Pilkington screen and identical to the factory fit apart from the lack of a Land Rover screen printed oval logo that only goes on the screens supplied to the factory.
BTW, all the other glass is "FUYAO" made in Fuzhou, China! Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
