Been doing the rounds on Facebook and the like, so some of you may already have seen this logic puzzle given to a bunch of 15 year old Singaporean maths geniuses....

Albert and Bernard just became friends with Cheryl, and they want to know when her birthday is. Cheryl gives them a list of 10 possible dates.

May 15th, 16th or 19th

June 17th or 18th

July 14th or 16th

August 14th, 15th or 17th

Cheryl then tells Albert and Bernard separately the month and the day of her birthday, respectively.

Albert: I don't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know that Bernard does not know, too.

Bernard: At first, I didn't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know now.

Albert: Then I also know when Cheryl's birthday is.


When is Cheryl's birthday?

The answer (some say there is more than one) is out there on the internet - up to you whether you want to cheat or not!!

I have worked out two answers

A) I'm not 15
B) I'm not a Singaporean
C) I'm not a maths genius

this is not a maths problem, more about logic & deduction 

Yup.

It IS solvable with only the information given. No maths is needed.

I know it's not May or June as they have a unique date 18/19th, so if Albert is sure Bernard doesn't know it can't be May or June.

Bare in mind Albert knows the month and Bernard the day. Other than that I'm goosed 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
