Cold Starting

Morning all,

Our Diesel FL is used by my Son, I had a call this morning from him saying it was reluctant to start. He couldn't tell me if the pre heat light was coming on or not but he said it took about 6 attempts before it started.

It was at least -4 this morning, Is this normal when exceptionally cold for a FL2, could it just be the starting cycle timing out before the engine fired.

All replies and shared experiences appreciated.

Ian.

No its not normal, the cranking delay will increase the colder it is. There are many threads on this and the main culprit is one or more 'glowplugs' at fault.

-7 here this morning. There was a longer delay before cranking but then just a short crank and start.
I know it doesn't help with yours, but it's what should happen. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Thanks D-Man

Not as cold this morning and am told by my Son it started no problem. I'll see how it goes. I have extended warranty on it and hopefully if it needs Glow plugs there are covered. Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately, I don't think the glow plugs are covered. Having said that, because you only just bought the car I am sure the dealer will sort this for you.

Thanks for the info. I have just spoken to the dealer making them aware there may be a problem as of yesterday and if not covered where do I stand. I await the reply via email Rolling Eyes
