4th Year 60k service done...Now listen to this.

Hi All

Just had my 4th Service (my 1st but the cars 4th, TD4 XS AUTO. MY2011 Facelift.

Love the car, but started making a loud whirring when driving / accelerating etc. though must be the Turbo pump..

advised LR dealership prior to service and was told i had to pay 160 pounds for the investigation!
I refused and told them it's still under warrenty, but they insisted i have to pay that and if it's found to be a fault covered under warrently then i'd get the money back.
Told them just to do the service and Mot as planned.

They did a 'free health check' Surprised and....
Anyway... the result they say it's the rear diffs and i am covered under warrenty, althouh not sure exactly what they are going to do with the rear diffs i.e. replace part / parts or complete!!

They will do the 'rear diff'work in December for 200 pounds! is this reasonable?

Funny thing is since the whirring noise started, i am now getting 10+mpg more then before the diff problem.

Ok, so i'm obviously a novice...but do i need the diffs? i'm suddenly getting 40mpg where before it was 27-30mpg. Shocked

finally and apologies for going on.. they sayd front pads worn 50% and rear 80%... (seen all over this forum, that may or may not be true)? should i get an indie to look at it.. and what do they charge approximately to look at the pads?

Appreciate any words of wisdom (relating to my topic) please. other words of wisdon unrelated also appreciated as this IS the best forum ever!!

Cheers

I wonder if it is still four wheel drive, what with the better fuel consumption? Shocked as for the pads no problem with the fronts yet but a quick look at the rear by an indi should not cost much if anything.

If it's a rear diff problem covered by warranty then why are you having to pay for any of it? On my previous FL2 I paid nothing for replacement diff under warranty....it's a known issue and covered.....I'd be arguing about that! Is it a LR warranty? 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Rear Diff for £200,
A. If it's under warranty it should be no cost to you.
B. Rear Diff Beraings cost between £450 to £700 depends on the Dealer.

The manufacturers warranty is for 3 years from the date first registered.

Look here for Landrover used car warranty http://www.usedvehicles.landrover.co.uk/
You can download the warranty guide from there explaining what is and what isn't covered.
You should have been given a copy when you bought the car Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Hi All.. OK, now i've made a statement of error.... let me clarify and pray for you advise please.

The 200 pounds they say is the cost for replacing the rear pads...NOT diff...
so my question again is ..is this reasonable? 200 pounds including vat and labour.

The Diffs ARE covered on the warranty! Thankfully.

apologies to all... Bow down Bow down Bow down

ps- do i need to tell anyone how great a vehicle this is to drive..after 10 months i just love it.

Finally they gave me a loan FL2 whilst the service and mot were being done...i say gave.. 15 pounds a day!!
It was a Manual MY14 XS ...seemed to hold the road better / tighter / firmer... i haven't driven a manual for 20 years+ and did you know if you stall this manual, you just need to press the clutch and it starts again! cool. Shocked
But i prefer my Auto.

You go to a dealer and you pay dealer prices.
Easy job to do yourself or any other garage.
Not sure how this would affect the warranty though Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I had my front and rear pads changed this year during the cars service at the indy I use. The cost was £140 for pagit pads. The indy did say the price was discounted slightly as the wheels were off the car for the service so the labour side of fitting the pads was reduced. Might be worth your while to get some other prices for pads from other garages? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

It's called start-stop technology. You didn't stall it - it just switched itself off to save fuel. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

No it's not stop start, there's a safety feature that if you stall it (for example off road)it should restart if you press the clutch in. I don't know if it only applies to cars with stop start but it is a seperate feature to stop start. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
