We have arranged to meet up with 5 of our new friends we made on holiday for a few drinks and some Christmas shopping.

Being as we live near Derby, 3 live in Solihull (family) and 2 live in Bedford, we decided that the Birmingham Christmas Market would be the ideal meeting place. From what I read, its the biggest in the UK but I've never been.

Has anyone on here been? If it is crap, then I'll just head for the pub!

P.S, to save time and hassle with traffic and parking (Saturday in December so shoppers aplenty!), we've booked train tickets for a mere £25 for both of us return and New Street station is very close to the location of the market. 38 mins journey direct from Derby. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Been a few times, excellent day and night out. Superb atmosphere and plenty of unusual foods and beers to sample, you will enjoy it

Nice shops, great places to eat, interesting architecture. Don't do Xmas shopping myself, so cannot say on that score. Please visit the new library at the end of the Hagley Rd A456(walking distance from the centre), fantastic building and a couple of roof top gardens where you can see the whole of Brum from and beyond. Jamie's restaurant is worth going to, depending on what you are into, and the whole of that area by St Martin's church has been transformed. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Yep - certainly worth a look. I went a couple of years ago, and needed to wrap up - it was bloody freezing! Plenty to see, do and eat around there, and if it gets as cold as they predict it will this year, wear a hat, scarf and gloves! (Unless you have a heated steering wheel to thaw your hands out on the return journey home ) Foraging near Gaydon....

Looking forward to it more now. The family from Solihull have been before and as they know Birmingham, they will book us in at a good restaurant for lunch. We have an early evening train to catch for home so it won't be a late day but it drops dark early so we will see the lights. We will be there just after 10am.

I hope it is cold. It's not like I'm not prepared...

The Markets not bad...if you don't have to navigate it every day
