a spray with TFR a power wash, then a hand soap all over, another power wash, then leather off dry.

I would not use TFR, I've seen the damage that does, hence I would take the risk with a bucket and sponge. TFR will take the shine off, it eats away at the paint. Will also take the black out of the plastics, your choice Thumbs Up

Agree with ad123456789101112131415, won't go anywhere near TFR.

Did anyone ever get anywhere with cleaning the head lining? Managed to make a mess of mine by piling tyres too high in the boot Evil or Very Mad Baby wipes have got rid of some of the black marks, but it's still smudgy. Thought I might try some neat alcohol, if I can find any.

Headlining cleaning

Headlining cleaning methods depend upon how bad the dirt is and what type of muck.
I've been doing write off cars for over 40 years and have different techniques.
1/. For a late model car that's just a bit grubby I use 1001 carpet shampoo and buy the bottle for use in extractor cleaners, diluting as per instructions. Apply in small areas with a small sponge and work it to a light froth then use a good clean bath towel to wipe it off. Repeat for the next area with a good overlap to avoid any missed areas.
Tip - don't think of using a kitchen sponge which has the abrasive scour back and don't use a nail brush.
2/.for an older car that's got more staining; mix the 1001 carpet cleaner and use a CLEAN garden pump up sprayer to get more shampoo into the headlong and work it in well. Use a home carpet extraction cleaner (I use a 'George') with the spray tank filled with fresh clean warm water. Work in areas, spray the water as you go and extract the dirty foam. The George type cleaners will get it very dry however I still finish off with a towel.
3/.dirtiercars. Use a good stronger mix of Fairyiquid in hottish water, this works very very well however its foamier and will cause a George type cleaner to close off as 'full' earlier as the foam lifts the 'full ball' quicker.
4/. Localised dirt spots. Good old Swarfega works a treat however you must only use it on a dry headlining; follow with the fairy liquid and only then finish off with 1001 and extraction clean water hoovering.
.
You will be staggered at how a filthy headlining can come clean! I would recommend you use surgical type gloves and really wash your hands and arms afterwords finishing with hand cream as otherwise you will itch like hell!
.
Somebody will give warnings about getting the headlining wet and saying that it will risk the backing cardboard. Ive been doing this for years on dozens of cars - believe me it works!!!
.

Interior cleaning and additional notes

The notes above apply equally to cleaning fabric seat upholstery .
.
For really heavily soiled front seats do just go in at stage 1 with the fairy liquid and consider using a soft nailbrush particularly at seam corners.
.
If you still have greasy spots then try using a aerosol brake cleaner however you must try on an out of the way bit of fabric first.
.
If you have kiddies biro marks in the headlining try Methylated spirits as it often is the only solvent that works.
.
I do hope forum member will try my techniques and pass comments as it will help other members. 2010GS Auto ex Celeb, Santorini Black, 2011 facelift , spoiler, spats, mudflaps, LED footwell lamps, Witter detach,

Autobrite FAB as the cleaner, diluted into a spray and good old fashioned elbow grease with a fabric sponge. I did the whole of the CRV work horse we have interior wise and it came up like new including the head lining and mucky boot carpet.

There are some pics on this review I did, just because I like you all:

Thanks to all - I'm sure the detail will help others as well as me! Looking at it in daylight, the babywipes have done a better job than I thought (isopropyl alcohol is the active ingredient) so it just needs finishing off. I'll look to follow your suggestions and report back.

Baby wipes and interior cleaning

Baby wipes are brilliant but equally can be a hazard.
.
There are many makers and many different ingredients. Some have only aqua (it means water!), some have just water and soap, some have cleaning 'chemicals' some include moisurisers.
.
It's horses for courses.
.
So by reading the ingredients you can choose the right maker / type for the specific automotive application.
.
I use the one with the soap (but not other chemicals), a can highly recommend it for cleaning all around the radio / dashboard. It readily removes all finger grease along with the attached muck; try it you'll be so surprised.
.
I like the idea of using the one with added moisturiser for the rubber mats!
