info centre messages of doom

info " engine power reduced"
lanrover breakdown phoned, afetr several hours recovered to house for onward delivery to local landy dealer.
tried leaving it and then see if message goes on restart, nothing doing!

however, when dropped off at home and reversing it off ramp, driver says " that message has gone now!"

wtf???

anyway will ring delaer in 10 and see what they think!

takes the edge off, only had the thing about 3 weeks.......and was so happy with it right up until last night!

coming back from portsmouth, long hold up in traffic as a34 congested took alternative route that turned out everyone and their mother was using...so lots of stand stills and slow progress for an hour... then just after i gets onto m4 reduced engine power ( I take it this is limp home mode)

b*gg*r!

I wonder if it was the DPF? if you have had the car three weeks, it is possible that it has been shunted around at low speeds previous to you collecting, is this your first really good run?
The DPF may have tried going into regeneration but failed, just a thought, hopefully just a blip its a cracking car really and after 65k miles in mine I still enjoy it very much Thumbs Up

If it's a 2010 model it won't have DPF but if it's an SD4 it's a 2011 model not 2010 and will have.

Could well be the DPF rear differential pressure sensor which if it fails will result in a reduced engine performance message. Happened to me, and it sometimes gave reduced engine performance and sometimes worked fine before going back to reduced engine performance. Simply fix by Dealer who fitted a new pressure sensor.

Surprised LR Assist didn't put the car onto the Diagnostic Computer which would identify the fault.

Yes, I had this too and the AA guys who turned up read the fault straight away. It was in limp mode for a while then drove as normal but still with the reduced engine message. New sensor was fitted after a few days when I got round to taking it in. Although it's not quick at getting away, I could do a comfortable 60/65mph even when in limp mode.

its an sd4 reg dec 2010....spent a morning at dealers whilst they try to fix it, back home now, they suspect a sensor error!!
should have asked them to log onto this site for the answer, it would have been fixed by now!

Digger - Registered in December 2010 makes it in the wonderful world of car marketing a 2011 Model Year.
I would hope the Dealer would do rather better than 'suspect a sensor error' their diagnostic computer should tell them which sensor is at fault.
Hope you get it sorted soon and get back to enjoying your Freelander.

You may not get any stored fault codes

Same happened to my Freelander but no DTCs were stored. Both LR Assistance and local LR dealer found no fault history but after a week in the dealer's, the fault went hard, the rear sensor was replaced and the car has behaved ever since. Believe as well as the sensor change, a software update was also done.

Had this message recently too. Called LR Assist (who were faultless Thumbs Up ) and he diagnosed a faulty fuel filter causing reduced pressure to the injectors. Apparently a common problem recently and LR are investigating. Possibly a bad batch of fuel filters as my fl had been serviced last month. Not the same problem as yours and glad you got it fixed but thought I'd post to help anyone else with the same error.

Funny though, although the dash said "reduced engine performance" I couldn't notice any difference, certainly wasn't in limp-home mode as I could drive faster than 30mph.
