It depends what they are wearing like and what your normal tyres are like, your Wintracs are not recommended for winter use when they get down to 4mm, they will wear quicker in the summer so you may end up having to replace them for next winter. Whereas you could run your normal tyres out this Summer and still have a good set of Wintracs for next winter. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

...in theory, it *shouldn't* be more any expensive in the long run (putting aside any costs you may have switching them out twice a year) - in fact, you could argue it'll save money as your tyre wear will be optimised all year around. That might help with Mrs Aero FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green |

As Yanwoo says, it shouldn't be more expensive in the long run - provided that you keep the car long enough.

Surely one looks at not only tyre size but also what it is designed for? Anyone buying "blind " is only asking for trouble. No point in buying winter tyres for hot summer weather for example, but how many actually check first?

I bought winter tyres for the winter, and summer tyres for the summer. I was told by the supplier the winters would be fine all year round when I fitted them, but I want them to be good for a couple of winters to come so this seemed a good way forward. _________________

I run General Grabber AT's all year round as being involved with forest car rallying I would be changing them every 3/4 weeks which is totally impractical. There is a bit of extra road noise but as my garage guy says for any noise "turn up the volume on the radio and wait for something to go bang".

Just noticed this one...
I have a torque wrench and was surprised, given the usual practice of standing on the end of the wheelbrace(!) how little torque, relatively, was actually required. Whilst overtightening a bit probably won't do any harm if you want the correct torque it may be worth investing in a torque wrench - they're not that expensive. See, for example: http://www.screwfix.com/p/teng-tools-drive-torque-wrench/22796 - I think that's the one I have. (Note that you'll need an appropriately sized socket too. I can't remember what the appropriate size is off-hand, but I can check later if need be.)
No, not unless you're experiencing vibrations. Wheels are normally balanced off the car anyway.
I'm not familiar with the Scorpions, but directional tyres are usually clearly marked so if there are no obvious markings they're probably not directional. But don't take my word for it! |

For those that run winters all year, not such a good idea.
