I agree with you - I'm not seeing a lack of investment. Many of the changes may be seen as tinkering rather than improvement, and one may debate the wisdom of others (e.g. getting rid of the TR knob) but it seems to me that the FL2 has evolved as much as most cars do during their lifetime, and more than many. |

I chose a manual for 09MY and 13MY to get better fuel economy. Both man and auto transmissions have their reliability issues.

Interesting comment regarding the manual and brakes, the TD4 Manual I had the dealer changed the front Discs and fitted pads all round at 20k, the SD4 which was obviously Auto never had the brakes touched and was traded in with 33k on it. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

It's quite amusing that this has turned in to another auto vs manual thread, when there was not even a mention of which was better or worse. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come......... |

Yep, but taking it even more off topic I can't resist picking up on:
This really sums up the problem with Land Rovers today. They're NOT supposed to be 'lux motors' (which I assume means luxury road cars) - they're supposed to be supremely competent off-road vehicles with a large slice of utility! But they have become 'fashionable' and are being bought for the school and supermarket runs. LR obviously can't afford to ignore such customers, as they're bringing desperately needed money into the company, but the result is that LRs are getting less and less LAND ROVERS, and as a result less and less attractive to those people who actually want a Land Rover, not a fashion statement! Prices are going up as more and more of the gadgets and gizmos expected by the school run crowd are added, and capability is suffering as, for example, road-oriented wheels and tyres replace the ATs and, almost unbelievably, 2wd versions are released! As a result LR are rapidly losing their traditional buyers. All the farmers around here drive Japanese pick-ups (or old Defenders), and Asian and non-UK European 4x4s are the norm amongst other 4wd buyers. There are still quite a few Freelanders around (1 and 2) but few Discoveries and RRs - they've quite simply priced themselves out of the market. For the new type of LR buyer (most people on here, I suspect) this is, of course, not an issue. But it would be a pity if LR give up completely on their traditional markets. If only they'd keep LR more grounded, and leave it to RR to service the fashion market. But the lure of the lucre is too strong. P.S. Why ARE so many people prepared to spend so much money on state-of-the-art off-road hardware they'll never, ever use? And accept the resulting compromises in on-road performance, handling, road-holding, comfort, space utilisation, etc? It doesn't make sense to a logical mind! |

Perhaps...but it's not just the mind we make decisions with, emotions play a critical role too. "Without heart we would be mere machines" FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green |
