Safety. Don't Trust Anyone.

On Friday my wife and I took our caravan for a service. It was about 45 miles away. On the way home the inside wheel fell off the caravan. Evil or Very Mad All the wheel bolts had come out.
We were very lucky however as at the time we were going slowly on a narrow country lane. We had done most of the journey at 60mph.
In future I will check all the wheel nuts/bolts on what ever I drive or tow after it has been serviced.
My beloved FL2 is OK but could do with a wash.

PS. How long will it take for CG to replay?

Shocked

The main thing is it didn't cause any injuries to yourself or your wife

I really would like to be your caravans service dealer right now, was there much damage to the caravan?

I friends caravan wheel sheared off and it went straight up into the caravan Exclamation

Have a look at the wheels of the caravan, when my dealer services mine they put a cross on the tire to show it has been tightened correctly, simple but effective Surprised Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The same thing happened to a friend of mine when he picked up his brand new van ,it was the first time he had ever towed a van, fortunately it didn't put him off.

I hope there was not too much damage to the van. My dealer has always checks the torque of the wheel nuts in front of you before you take the van away. They did when we collected when new and when collecting after a service.

It seems like there maybe some farmer type going around loosening van wheels Whistle . Next time you take your vans in for a service tell me so I can follow and laugh when your wheel falls off causing caravan destruction Laughing

Or just rent a cottage much safer, easier, more comfortable and you don't have to empty the portaloo every day Confused

Thanks everyone for the comments. The good news is the service dealer has been out to see the van today and there isn't much damage. He is going to fix it obviously at no charge. However there is something to remember from this incident and that is- CHECK YOUR NUTS OFTEN.

Further to previous, When i purchased a new 'Leisure' battery for my caravan, the shop assistant informed me that the battery would need to be charged over 14 hours, as it only holds a nominal amount and it is "surprising how many customers return to say it is a faulty battery when it needed to be charged". Well, I did not know and took this advice and put it on charge using my car battery charger several hours later - surprise, did not take a charge. I thought this as strange and cannot be another dud battery! I sought info on 'leisure' batteries on the internet and...behold, a different charger is required! Evil or Very Mad as a car charger does not provide the 'deep' charging required. I purchased a charger over the internet and it worked Very Happy

I wonder if any fellow caravaners have encountered this same problem? The other thought is whether the installed charger in a caravan system is of the car type Question if it is, then it is useless for recharging! Freelander 2 - SE
