Checked again today.
In D the rain drops on the bonnet jiggle around.
Slide into N and they stop.

I did the same test charlie with rain drops and hardly any movement in the rain drops whether in N or D, when the bonnet is dry you definately can't tell any vibration.

Asked my dealer about the vibration, he said it is normal. As far as the gearbox is concerned, he said that gearboxes do not come in pieces, they are completely pre-assembled when delivered to LR, so no dirt (eg burs) can be in there, or at least there is nothing to be done for further cleaning it during factory assembly of the car. The vibration is produced by the gear being loaded in D and because the revs are at a minimum this produces the vibration (due to the extra load). I have only tried one Diesel Auto and the vibration was apparent. No vibration on Disco3's in D or in my i6. Vafree2 do try adding some 2T oil in and see if anything changes. It is only my opinion but I suspect that poor quality diesel does make a difference. In what temperature range have you used your car?

I have 07 HSE auto gearbox, it's 2nd hand and 175k KMs on the clock. I noticed that when I stop and keep brakes pressed in D the engine vibrates too, no vibration in N or P. Does anyone found the solution to stop vibrating?

Just tried again in D and yes it vibrates, more rattle than vibrate also tried in R drive in reverse then stop and brake pedal pressed, no rattle.

I found another topic which sounds similar to what happens to me, will check tomorrow, it's dark now.

Dealer said it was 'normal'? Now that's a refreshing change; they're usually so happy to accept that you just might have a fault Shocked

I found the problem, one of rubber insulator for air filter box is missing so that's why that box sits wryly and make a vibrating noise.

Insulator is LR000753

Has anyone got any further with this one?
I noticed this today in my '59 HSE but only once the motor was really hot in London traffic. Pull up in D with foot on brake and a rattle starts up in general gearbox area that sounds like an old taxi has stopped next to you. Put lever into N and it stops. No difference in Sport or command shifting either.
Once the car was (slightly) cooler after a run home on a dual carriageway it wouldn't do it on the drive of course.
Only other difference lately has been the fitment of VPower Nitro whatever. Weird stuff sent tendrils of vapour out of the filler tube whilst the nozzle was dispensing it. BUT have been delighted with performance, really seems more lively especially at 70 mph. Could this "mad scientist" fuel have made my gearbox rattly when hot? (doubt it).

My one does it. 77,000 on the clock. If I'm in stop start traffic or waiting at the lights, I slip it into N. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Has anyone been able to solve this one?

Mine vibrates heavily when stopped with my foot on the brake in D or R, but is smooth in N or P. It stated about a year ago and used on only occur on hot days after lots of stop/start driving in peak hour. Now it occurs soon after warming up and gets even worse after driving in heavy traffic.

I've tried the following without improvement:

    - New MAF sensor
    - New crankshaft sensor
    - Cleaned IAT and MAP sensors
    - Check all intake/turbo hoses
    - New timing & aux belts inc tensions and idlers.
    - New water pump
    - New fuel filter & injector return hoses
    - New engine mounts/isolators (inc transmission mount)
    - New exhaust isolators
    - New airbox isolators
    - Replaced missing nuts/bolts/brackets/clips (sloppy LR service centres over the years)
    - Tried injector cleaner in fuel tank
    - Drove with the aux belt off
    - Drove with the haldex fuse removed
    - Drove with the EGR blanked

I've also got drive line resonance at 50km/hr and vibration at 80km/hr+ under load. Though I think this is more CV axle related.

I feel like I've run out of cheapish diagnostic options - next steps may be injectors or torque converter.

Any ideas on what to try next?

Vehicle is 2007 MY08 TD4 SE Auto with 215,000km.
