Changing sidelights with light covers installed

Hi guys,

Am I right in thinking that to replace my sidelight bulbs (on a 2007 FL2 HSE), I need to remove the headlight covers first, then the lamp unit, then change the bulb via the back of the unit ?

I'm hoping not as it seems like a big hassle just to change a bulb Sad

Thanks

Chris

No head light covers on my '07GS.
Undo the two 10mm bolts that hold the light in place. Lift the plastic lever (carefully) at the back of the headlight unit and slide the unit out of the front of the car a bit. Then you'll be able to disconnect the multi plug and take the light all the way out. You've now got access to all the bulbs via rubber covers. Replacement is the reverse except the light unit should snap into place.
You need to be careful with the plastic lever, its joined to a fairly fragile plastic rod that tends to snap and it's brittle in cold weather.

Cheers Bob.

I wouldn't be able to pull the unit out without removing the light covers which are secured into the bodywork......

You have to remove the light guards to fit new bulbs, it's a two minute job, think it either a 4or 5mm Allen key and a Phillips screwdriver then just remove the lights as BossBob

If you could manage to replace the bulbs without removing the headlights you would be doing it blind.
There have been many instances where people have fitted new bulbs and the alignment is way out - purely by not seating the bulbs correctly, and this was after taking the headlights out.

It's a 10 minute job, including taking off the light guards and brackets. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

All done - took about half an hour.

Just for reference, light covers come off with an Allen key & the bracket with a possie driver.

Light then slides out & bulb is changes over in mins.

Thanks for the tips chaps, if anyone is interested, I'll post some pics when it goes dark
