Glove box damper & Centre Console wiring

Can anyone tell me exactly how to disengage the damper from the back of the glove box without breaking it? I've read the posts about taking it off, but no mention how to unclip.

Also, has anyone tried to thread cable through the centre console? It looks like it can be done and I've been trying for a while and striking obstacles. I'm attempting to run 12V and control wiring from the boot to the remote for my Ham rig which will go in the cubby hole space.

To disengage the damper open the glove box and you'll see that the damper (top right) has a small black lever attached. Pull this gently to the left and it will free the damper from the glove box - the GB.

Note: the GB will not fall down out of the way to let you gain access to the internals of the dash. To do that you have to:

1: release the two side rubber cushioned plastic arms that are holding the GB. To do this, look again at the damper and you'll see down and to the right a cut-out plastic tab. Pull that to the left and that side of the GB will come free from the dash.
2: then push the left side of the GB towards the right and the whole GB will fall down.

You now have full access to the underneath of the dash. Thumbs Up

Pull the lever of the damper to the left. Need to be firm with it.
Example here (although on a LH drive vehicle)

Also, with the glovebox removed, you can wire across the metal bar behind the glovebox using one way ties, and up through to the cubby hole near to the vent.

The damper is on the TOP LEFT of the GB.

I seem to remember with mine that reassembling the GB, it was difficult to get the damper back into position, I found it easier to pull the GB off its lower mounting points so it was completely detached, fit the damper first, then the side runners and finally push the whole assembly home onto the lower mounts.

I recently fitted a satnav in the cubby hole and to be honest there is no need to remove the GB, once the dash surround is off, wiring can be passed down to the GB very easily, there is enough room to get a hand up from the GB.

Thanks for this info, Guys. I'll try my luck later today.

Has anyone any experience with the centre console? I.E. running cable from front to back?

Cheers. 2007 FL2 TD4 SE Auto, Alaska White with Black Leather, Cooper A/T3 tyres.

Thanks for this, Past Master, it's just what I was looking for. So far, I've pulled off the glove box, speaker surround, dash surround and gear shift surround with only a small degree of difficulty, thanks to all the advice I've received on the forum. The trickiest part was being game enough to put enough pressure on the pry apart points while worrying about breaking the plastic clips etc. I've also been able to feed some cables through the centre console and today will remove the radio to retrieve those cables. Will post some pics when finished.

Thanks again to you all for the help. 2007 FL2 TD4 SE Auto, Alaska White with Black Leather, Cooper A/T3 tyres.
