Gradient release control-How do i get it to work

Afternoon all,

Found this in the Hand book.

"Gradient release control (GRC)
With HDC activated, if the vehicle is stopped on
a slope of 20%(1 in 5) or more using the
footbrake, GRC will become active (except in
Terrain Response sand program). During a hill
ascent when the footbrake is released GRC will
automatically delay the brake release to allow
the driver to take up drive, and build up engine
torque. The brakes will then gradually release
to allow the vehicle to move smoothly away.
When descending a hill, a similar brake hold
and gradual release is employed to provide a
smooth transition in to HDC control.
GRC operates in forward and reverse, and
requires no driver intervention."

Now i have a manual and get get this to work. Initially i thought it was not relevant to the manual gear box however its does not state automatic only.

Anyone with a manual managed to get this to work.?

Graeme

HI

Is it as simple as the hand book states or is there something i am missing.

Hill a 1/5 hill.
1st gear with HDC on.
Stop with foot brake- Do i pump to hold or stop normally?
Release then go as normal?

Graeme

I've used HDC and gradient release on a down hill slope but not tried it for a traditional hillstart. And yes it's as simple as it seems to-be in the manual. You just need faith.

I've used it both downhill and uphill in a manual Freelander 2 and also an Auto.
Do exactly what it says in the owners handbook.
Gradient release control was if I'm not mistaken originally developed for a manual Freelander 1.

!st Gear with HDC on
Stop and hold car with footbrake - press it quite hard for maximum effect.
Select desired gear to move off 1st or Reverse.
Bring clutch up to biting point, release brake and transfer right foot to accelerator and apply power.

I think it was developed because the handbrake is rubbish - or more specifically will not work as well in wet conditions as the traditional transmission brake.
