Whats the biggest job you have undertaken yourself?

In a bid to hush a defender owner I know here, who insists that the FL2 is just a windows 2001 machine that cannot be fixed by anyone but a dealer, I reminded him that it is still possible to change a clutch, or rebuild a diff by yourself, therefore saving a bunch of cash and being able to justify the extra comfort over the Deffi : )

As I cant find anything online regarding tutorials, I was wondering what you had all done by yourselves? : )

(I am guessing Alex will be the first to post here, and no CG, paying commoners to do the work for you doesn't count...)

Please for give my levity this morning LRswe - your original post is indeed a worthy one. However, the most time I've spent on her Ladyship's FL2 MY2010 is to put back trim panels properly after the official Swiss LR service wallies have done their worst on her vehicle, or, to clean it after they used it as a dustbin for their workshop waste Twisted Evil (true)

I once installed a full bathroom, upstairs and tiled the load in travertine tiles, installed twin basins, towel radiator, painted the ceilings and wood stained the newley fitted staircase

Installed a jacuzzi bath, along with new toilet and basin, tiled it all in marble tiles down stairs

I also installed 25ft by 30ft of decking suspended off the floor with stairs down to the levelled garden, planted low maintenance shrubs, 15 8ft tall fence posts, gravel boards and fencing

Levelled the front garden, built a dwarf wall in the front to surround the 2 tonnes of slate, laid bradstone paving and laid more shrubs

But on the car

I once changed my wiper blades

Years ago I had no option but to repair/tinker myself but now because I can afford it, someone else can get dirty. Wink

And totally wrapped my Freely for off road protection (not one of the best ideas)

topix has loads of guide for installing LR acceessories only, no major repairs Sad

I have fitted several rear entertainment systems, and done a few read shoes / pads / discs.
thats it.

My FL2 has been too reliable to need anything else

I with the help of a commoner from the village changed rear pads disc and handbrake. easy job but I appreciated the all seeing eye of a trained mechanic, brakes are important you know.

other than that I fitted side steps easy, changed headlight bulbs and wipers

yeaterday I took the front bumper of my pickup, removed the corroded foglamps and refitted without the lights, MOT tommorrow. new foglamps aprox £40 each never use them so why bother ? At work

Mrs Taz car was MOT'd today
She does 2000 miles a year

New Discs on front (again)
two new tyres as they are cracking
Exhaust needs replacing soon
Cam belt due

Can you get disposable cars, would be cheaper

I replaced the neck on my 42 year old Les Paul. I'd never attempt it again.
It was almost new when i bought it.
And I practiced most days.
I thought I was getting good, but slowed right down down when a bass player gave me some sheet music to read.

Then I stopped altogether when he put some notes on it Rolling with laughter Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
