Puddles

Hi guys,

Whenever I hit a medium or large puddle at even very reasonaable speeds, on the nearside or offside, most of the water immediately transfers itself via the bonnet to the windscreen.

Is this normal? Would fitting front mudflaps effect a cure? Or have I got a puddle jumper? Thumbs Up

Cheers. Getting warmer down here now - spring is in the air Bow down Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Sounds about normal for 2008 FL2. Bib spoilers help a bit, but not much.

The body of a Freely sits higher than a normal saloon car, hence when you hit a puddle some of the water is splashed in all directions, in a saloon car this water hits the inner wheel arch and disperses down, in a Freelander or any other high vehicle the water is thrown in all directions, backwards, to the sides an forwards and as no bodywork is there you drive into it, hence it comes over your bonnet, it's normal but we do like members to refrain from shouting "Yeah Baby" or similar when this happens. I've fitted the bib spoilers (or bumper extensions to give them the LR terminology!) today. They are simple to fit, look good (IMO) and for just around a tenner from Duckworths well worth it. If you are not planning any serious off roading then give them a try. Thumbs Up 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

Forget the bib spoilers, they look terrible and even the manual advises that you remove them if you're planning on taking the car off road to avoid ripping the bumper when you hit obstructions with the bibs.

If you think hitting puddles is a problem, just wait until you hit 4 inches of nice fresh cow slurry at about 25 mph.

With a window open.

I did.

Yuuuuck!!!! Laughing

Appearance is a matter of personal choice. As for ripping them off when off roading it depends how extreme you plan to go. The guy at Rockingham LR Experience said they do not remove them from the Freelander as they are not a problem, unlike the Evoque. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

You really do have to be in some very difficult terrain for them to ground, on the LR Experiance at Halewood, the only time they grounded was on the section where they show you the traction control where one wheel is off the ground, the rear offside is in the air and the front nearside is right down in the hole, at this point it grounded but that was all but then not enough to do any damage, it just rubbed over it, since then they have brought out new ones that are slightly smaller. Not yet heard of anyone actually had any damage due to them being fitted.

I also noticed a few of the members who attended the Bala Event had the Bibs fitted, no problems were mentioned.

I did manage to give the front bash plate a very heavy knock when I was at the LRE at Honiton.

You're all just not trying hard enough! Perhaps some nice eD4's all round are in order Razz Laughing

Go for the later version of bib spoilers - much smaller and less likely to get knocked off. They make quite a difference to the puddle splash problem but don't stop it entirely. Cheers,

Agree entirely. If you look at the later bibs and run a line from their lower most point across the front of the car they are no lower than the rest of the front bumper/underskirt. Well worth fitting IMHO Thumbs Up 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.
