I have a really weird noise coming from the rear end of my freelander 2 . Its very noticeable at 40mph onwards if i depress the clutch it doesn't make a different so it must be the tyres or drive shaft. Anyone know what it could be, it started off at lunch time today and i thought oohh that sounds odd this road is noisy! Then on the motorway home it was really loud and kinda off putting as i thought the rear end was going to falll off lol... Help meeee Please

if you swing the car left and right - ie shifting the body weight of the vehicle from one side to the other - does the noise stop at all - if it does might be a wheel bearing (I had that!) TVLR quoted about £110-£150 to replace.

If the noise is constant it may be the haldex/rear diff problem.

Other things coul dbe heatshield underneath touching the rear drive shaft.

Something trapped between the rear disc and disc shield

I havent tried swinging the car from left to right its under warranty so I'll just take it into startstone and say sort it out lol

No carvan cg lol and cant see a wheel weight thats fallen off and even if it did would that make such a loud droaning sound! ?

when the diff goes i would expect a whine from the rear if its a droning sound possible exhaust problem or propshaft  rainy-city

naaa its been dry today! I swear its something like a wheel bearing, i just dont want to drive the bloody thing incase i damage any other parts!

has anything fell into the spare wheel well that could rattle along?

Over the last couple of weeks I thought mine was getting noisier, like a bearing was going. It just sounds like increased tyre noise at the moment and I can only really hear it on smooth roads. I was wondering if my diff has a bearing on its way out. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

How old is the car Chris and how many miles does it have? Just curious as the diff problem is a worry to new owners like myself  59 TD4e XS in galway green

2007 66k annie! So hardly any miles really for a car like this..

This is getting beyond a joke,how many diffs have we had go on here.It makes me really seriously think about getting rid of mine before problems like this kick in and i have only done 22k from new in jan08.
