Still nothing else fallen off the lemon yet but the remote locking thing is getting weird.

Had a long run (4hrs), stopped at the other end for a glamourous breakfast at Maccie D's and just couldn't get the Censored thing to lock (while standing in the falling snow without an overcoat on). Half an hour later, give it a quick click (in hope rather than expectation) from 20 yards away and - tad ah - flashing lights and the mirrors pop out.

I am now officially at a loss. I have since managed to invoke the auto window open three times when multi pressing in frustration (which she who must be obeyed is not impressed with in the current weather). Looks like my first visit to a stealer is on the cards. Anyone used Guy Salmon in Ascot before?

GWB1967:

I suspect it is a knackered battery - one of my fobs was doing very similar things to yours.

I replaced the battery and it has never been a problem since.

Might guess the dealer would just say "need a new fob"..... Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

Simon: can you just replace the battery? I thought the were sealed unit re- chargeables.

I have post quite a few entries on the subject of battery replacement.

In my gallery you will see photos of the opened fob.

To open you need to crack it open - I took out the emergencyu key - inserted a large screwdriver and used it to lever the fob apart - it needs a lot of force and some additional persuasion with a sharp blade or screwdriver etc.

I bought the battery on e$ay for about £10

Unsoldered the original battery and soldered in the new one.

I then charged it in the car dock over the course of a week - and used the other fob to lock/unlock - so as not to drain the new battery until it had a chance to have a good charge.

Has work perfectly since.

I swap fobs over about every 2 to 3 weeks.

Hope that helps. Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

Thanks Simon, that would be perfect if I had a) a spare fob and b) any technical nounce at all. Think I may just have to bite the bullet and get two new fobs and a reprogram done. 2007 FL2 HSE i6 - Stornaway Grey, a touch a refinement in a land of oil burners - now where is the nearest petrol station?
