United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

0-60 in 9 seconds is OK - ish and decent 50 -70s fine , but that is standard 2.0 turbo diesel territory these days but without wanting to offend anyone I think anything running 100bhp( Flywheel)/tonne kerbweight is never going to be Sports..... but I supose it all comparative, but that is the opinion of a biker and to be fair nothing that I can afford to buy with 4 wheels will ever impress me with its performance... 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thumbs Up True, Bike will always be better, had to hang my helmet up after arthritis took hold in my hand.

Hinchy, what sort of mileage are you getting, I know some of the "Oriental" tyres are pretty poor but I have also heard good things about Kumhos. Very intersted as at £165 a corner for the Pirellis a big saving is to be had, most of my 35k miles a year will be Motorway.

Hi taztastic
I work shifts so the drive to work at 05:30 their not much traffic on the M60, going I get 42 -43mpg coming home (up hill) 37-38 thats a 33 mile round trip, if I drive around town (Stockport very hilly) down to 32mpg, just been down to Coventry with 4 in the car doing 70 nearly all the way 200+ miles return got 38mpg and it's a manual. Had no issues with the tyres I would like to had ATs tyres but you just can't get them in 18s.

Rolling with laughter Sorry, I meant mileage out of the tyres, although MartynB has had a good deal. Will have a good look round when the time comes, although only need 3 as I have a full size spare that may as well be used.
I get around 36 overall in an auto SD4, although using all the power and the fuel quickly disappears, good fun though, as Martyn said, it is fairly mediocre by today's standard, but people don't expect a Freelander to be still at their heels after a dash fom the lights, makes me giggle.

I'll be very interested to see what you think of the Hankooks. I've researched brands available here and had pretty much decided on the Hankook Dynapro HP. They seem to get great reviews re noise and wear characteristics and good feedback on grip. I will get about 50,000 K from the OEM Wranglers which isnt too bad seeing that I do quite a bit of reasonably heavy towing, but I look forward to better mileage from the Hankooks. A$230 per wheel fitted and balanced is a saving of about A$60ea over Wranglers and more than A$100ea on Conti's or Michelin. Give us a report if and when you get them.
Rob

I have bought the Hankooks (Dynopro HP) and, although I've only done about 400 miles (on road) they seem fine. Certainly fairly quiet on tarmac.

A couple of points:-

1 Hankooks are decent tyres. IMHO you pay less for them because of the "name", not because they are in any way inferior.

2 I do not like the term "SUV". "V" is the only bit that describes a Freelander 2. I call mine by the novel term "car". "Sports" is a term which appears to have lost its meaning over the years. My bike does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds but is is still not a "sports" bike. And yes my Defender was definitely "utility" for the reasons set out in previous posts, the Freelander 2 is not. It is a nice comfy car that doesn't have to stay at home when it snows.

I'll go back to sleep now.. Smile John

I had hancooks on my Audi, I liked them, especially in the wet, but they perform badly in Auto express tyre tests.

Much cheaper than big name tyres and lasted well too.

My tyre man says he fits loads of them and hears few bad reports At work
