As an ex MINI owner myself (2004-2010), may I ask what made your MINI so bad?

The power steering failed which left the car undriveable, the windscreen wiper motor failed once under warranty and once just out of warranty and Customer Services weren't interested in contributing and as for the local BMW/Mini Garage they were enough to drive me away from the marque for ever - calling them unhelpful would be being kind.

Fortunately, our experiences with MINIs were a lot better, but I know that the power steering pump was a common issue with many of the earlier cars and squeaks and rattles can be a way of life, especially with the firmer suspension and / or 17" + wheels with runflats that usually get specified.

We enjoyed our time with MINIs, but we'd never go back; they are so bloomin' impractical and there's very little that they've built since 2007 that we even like!

I've driven an SD4 and an Si4 and both are fabulous to drive. The SD4 is similar to the Freelander in some respects but is better in many. The chassis is particularly firm and this provides for excellent ride and comfort which translates into a good driving epxerience both on and off road. The Si4 is also an impressive drive although fuel consumption might put off a lot of people.

Overall it beats the Freelander in many areas but I'm still undecided as to whether it beats it enough for me to want to trade in my Freelander for one.

Posted a couple of photos in my Gallery of an Evoque Coupe SD4 auto showing what it can do off road. The wheel in air was showing how stiff the chassis is and also the capability of the vehicle.

Nice pics, the Evoque has more than enough off road capability to meet the needs of most of it's users. It's a nicely put together motor.
