There are loads of owners on this forum who have A/T tyres fitted. And Mich website says H is okay.

Is it possible that kwik fit are taking libertys? Wink

I've just checked the Michelin UK website and it's saying V rated.

http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/tyre-selec...ter=summer

Whereabouts are you looking?

No, Kwik Fit were just doing their "Jobsworth" bit Rolling Eyes

UPDATE:

Hang on a moment; some of the tyres are being recommended as H rated, some as V rated and some as W rated, depending on your combination of wheel rim size and tyre design.

The only thing that matters is your insurance cover, I'd suggest you provide your insurer with this evidence and ask them for a ruling....

There is a Michelin tyre guide under SUV/4x4. The Lattitude Cross is listed which is 'H' rated.

I'm with Alex on this. What's the point of having a 4x4 where you can't fit A/T boots with a 108 load? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

There is one other alternative if you need All Terrain tyres: Kuhmo do a 235/65 R17 108V as an All Terrain....

Cheers Tigger. I'll get to the bottom of this, V rate is over the top. I'll let you know how i go on. I had trouble with kwik fit with my previous company car, seemed they were pushing this brand and the other, ie the most expensive, the most profit.
I dumped them eventually and found out they were giving me a load of b Censored s

In fact, the whole company tore up the contract with them. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I really don't like Kwit Fit and wouldn't go there by choice! Kwik Fit is a bit like ATS; it's where you go because the contract hire company has a cheap contract with them. My last contract hire company moved their regular service cover from the Volvo dealer to Kwik Fit Shocked We don't have any dealing with that contract hire company anymore....

Often local tyre independents are much better and they are usually cheaper too!

Tigger,
Totally agree Thumbs Up
What happened with my company car is that it was fitted with Pirelli as O/E and the fronts were worn. Kwit fit said i had to have Dunlops (after a phone call) as stated by my contract company. I rang them from my mobile and the contract people said it was b Censored t!
They told me to walk out and rang me back to say where i could get Pirelli fitted.
Later i found out that there was more profit for them with Dunlop.
Kwik fit contract was tore up on the grounds of 'breach'. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Very interesting. I shall speak to the contract hire company before I set foot in there again, just in case they try it on with me too.

Which brings me back to my original query.
What's the point of fitting a 149 mph Autobahn tyre to a 112 mph 4x4 offroader?

Maybe our tyre sponser could throw some light. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

This ridiculous tyre rating has annoyed me since I bought the car, it's like selling you a boat that you can't put in water!
After asking many dealers if a H rating will do I spent hours on the phone to as many land rover customer and technical departments as I could find and still got no sense! I could understand if the.vehicle was capable of such speeds but according to the book it's 112mph! Very frustrating! In the end I just rang my insurance to ask if I could use the new grabber AT which are rated to 130mph, and they said they weren't really fussed!

what skins do i fit

why dont you see what your landrover dealer would fit then find the right supplier that will give you the best deal i would go and buy landrover owner mag plenty of good deals there Thumbs Up

just a reminder as a golden rule the more bias the tyre is for off road the more noise the tyre makes on tarmack i would go for the best quality mud/snow tyre i can afford i have found in the past that the budget tyres dont last as long as branded make because the compound of the rubber is softer.

i dont think the insurance would be botherd what tyre was fitted as long as it was made to quality standards as for the speed rating if you stick with what it says in the hand book you cant go wrong as these rated tyres were fitted when the car was built rainy-city

That's the problem. Handbook says 'V' rate. Which is 149 MPH
I want a 4x4 A/T trye which are mostly 'H' Rate. Up to 129MPH

There is also a compound difference between H, V and W the higher the rating the softer the compound. This is to give more adhesion under power. Power output and torque ar e taken into consideration by manufacturers when recommending tyre size and rating. All FL2's (3) Gone

Well, got to the bottom of the 'V' and 'H' rate tyre nonesense.

I received an email this morning from Michelin who state that 108 'H' rate is suitable for Freelander 2. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
