Rattles and trim falling off : UPDATED with results.

My MY10 XS is going in on Monday to have its air con fixed and to have some trim replaced/rattles fixed.
I was wondering if anyone has had any similar problems.
Firstly, the following bit of trim keeps coming adrift. It's been replaced once already:

The front driver's door is going the same way.

Secondly, I have a really annoying rattle in the boot (see yellow arrow). I have no idea how to get in here myself. Strangely there seems to be a big enough gap between the plastic and the window but pushing down where the arrow is seems to stop the rattle for a wee while at least:

I had been sure that the rattle was coming from the load area cover but I've been able to isolate it to here.

Anyone with previous experience of these problems?

Stuart

ps. I've just driven from Edinburgh to Bray in ireland and back. The last few months the cars has averaged 31.2 mpg but on this journey it avergaed 36 on the way there and 41.1 on the way back!

You could, if you so wished do it yourself. most trim is kept in place with plastic pins, just a matter of relocating them.

As for the boot, take off the plastic trim adjacent to the stiker - 6 plastic pegs, you just pull it up. Then starting with the left hand trim, pull away on the horizontal, first one peg, then another two will come away. Detatch the boot light connector multi plug, fold the rear seat down and gently push away, another 3 plastic pins will come away. You can then do what you want and replace as you took off. 5 min job. Cool

Personally, the arrow you show in the boot points to the place the parking ECU is placed under the trim. cant see it being loose, probably just the trim not fixed, but if you dont pull it apart, check the pegs are straight and put it back, then you are probably just bending pegs or breaking them and at 2.50 a throw it's expensive.

PS pushing the trim down shouldn't do a thing. Thats why I think it's a mislocated peg.

Aha!

That's useful information. Thanks Dunroof.

I'll see what they do on Monday at the dealership and if it's still not fixed have a go myself.

many thanks,

Stuart

Nice colour Stooby, good to see another with taste........I am reluctant to remove trim in the knowledge that 'plastic pegs' will break, I will not have replacements and on refitting the trim will be loose.....Sods law! Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

So does mine! Had it replaced once and glued once, still no joy, still pops off regularly. Rubbish design and finish in my opinion. They are going to have another 'go' at fixing in the near future. Also, the door this is a problem on had a badly fitted door card so suggest you check yours. I did pull the window trim off a bit and it looks like it is held in purely by the powers of friction against the rubber door seal. Still, I do really like the car and surprisingly for me can forgive it these few foibles.

Julytourist - Indeed, I can see me making a pig's ear of it if I tackle it myself. Thank goodness for the warranty.

Thanks Stownrow and Mojo, in a way it's good to hear other people have had the same problems.

I love the car despite all the problems I've had. Having said that, It was meant to be a long term purchase but I'll be thinking hard about getting rid of it come end of warranty time. I guess I'll make that call when the time comes.

Off topic, after using the service department for service or warranty work, does everyone else get sent a customer satisfaction survrvey via email? I really don't mind filling these things in, on the contrary it's good to be able to give some feedback. The biggest problem is the wording of the questionaire. The multiple choice options go from poor (or whatever) to 'Outstanding'. What really annoys me is that 'outstanding' suggests to me something , well, really out of expectations and apparently Land Rover only count the options marked as outstanding. The dealer keeps phoning me to remind me to fill in the questionaire and mark the outstanding options. The very fact that they phone me to tell me what options to choose means that I never do. Grr. If they think they really have been outstanding then they shouldn't need to be telling me.

Stuart

Quite right - I've had this row with my local dealer and LRCS and got no where. They arn't outstanding either, so huess what, they get rated at what they are - POOR!

I concur Dunroof - so far the Swiss lot including the importer show little signs of truly caring about customer satisfaction. They talk the talk very proficiently - unfortunately their execution of the detail in the workshop and boardroom is maladroit.

Update

Well, I've just got the car back from Pentland Land Rover.

The air con wasn't working because a connector had come free (I believe somewhere in the engine bay - might even have happened during its recent first service).

The door trims were taken off, inspected and replaced but it was unclear as to why they keep working free. I expect I'll have the same problem again somewhere down the line.

The rattle from the boot area, well, they took the plastics off and couldn't see anything obvious and have put it back together. In the 20 minute drive back from the garage it was silent Fingers crossed the rattle has gone.

The courtesy car was the 2wd eTD4 GS Big Cry

No TR knob, not even HDC. However it felt nippier than my MY10 car (I suspect the extra torque of the new TD4 gives an extra shove). The clutch felt lighter and the whole car felt quieter. The engine sounded a tad more refined. Mind you, mine has been creaking and rattling like an old transit for a while now,
Two things struck me though. Firstly the torque steer when accelerating, especially from stand still. It inadvertently wheel spun it a couple of times and had the steering wheel pointing in all directions (and I wasn't driving it hard or anything like that). Secondly, the turbo was noisy. It had a found and distinct whirr/whistle/hiss which I found slightly unpleasant.
All in all, I know why Land Rover produce a car like the 2wd version but I just can't see the point of it. If I wanted a 2WD car I'd by a hatch/saloon. Why have none of the advantages of the 4WD (apart from ground clearance I suppose) and few of the benefits of a 'normal' 2WD car? Anyway, that's just me.

I expect a useless customer survey email any day now and a phone call to tell me to mark everything down as excellent.
Which is a shame because so far Pentland have been very good (expensive for servicing but otherwise helpful and competent).

Stuart

I imagine it would feel nippier as the engine hasnt got to turn all the other bits associated with 4 wheel drive whether its engaged or not, it still has all the friction losses to cope with, and I expect a 2 wheel drive is a bit lighter in weight?

It's highly unlikely that the 2WD car is ever going to appeal to anyone on here. It's intended to bring new people to the brand; so they'll still get most of the good bits about the Freelander, with less company car tax, lower fuel consumption (marginally) and yet still have more off road capability than many prospective users will ever need.
