2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Lux Auto Stornoway Grey

Whiiring or Whoosing Noise

Hi All
Have trawled through the forum, and can't see anything that relates to my odd noise?

Its like a whirring or whoosing noise, not grinding or a howling noise.
Appears to come from under drivers footwell.

Noise increase gradually from about 30mph and get louder as the road speed goes up and is loudest at 70mph, although not that bad, radio on loud drowns it out....

Its not like a 'dry bearing' either difficult to describe...

NOT engine speed related (test standing still all revs)?
NOT Air Con Fan (turned off)?
NOT Auto Box, dropped int o Neutral at 60mph and still there?
Still there when turning on a long sweeping bend at speed (both ways)

Seems that it is entirely dependant on road speed..
Any ideas??

You can hear some noise below 30mph but cuts in and out as you go over humps bumps etc...

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Fuji White

"whooshing" noises are usually the first sign of a splot in the intercooler hose which can be extremely hard to find when not under load.
I'd bet that is what is wrong No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Exactly my experience - Could not reproduce it all on my drive but heard it when engine underload. Mine was the little short one at the front which, from what I read on here, is the most common one to go first. I did get a turbo code fault as well which helped in the diagnosis. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
Evoque SD4 Auto Blue.
FL1 HSE TD4 Manual Black - Gone.
RR Classic V8 EFI - Gone

Good shout, in this week for a service so will get the guys to check the hoses & codes.
And steering column grommet!

Gonna get them checked out.
My FL1 had similar issues, fitted silicon hoses and blanked EGR was much better when done.
That was on a 115k TD4, my FL2 is on 89k so almost certainly due to be changed.

Will post results!!
