I had this problem, I use to tap the starter motor and it would work. Took it to a mate who service the starter motor and it fine after that. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

I was at a garage once where someone had this issue on a car that wouldn't start after filling up with fuel. The owner said that it did this occasionally so the mechanic came out and had a look at it then went and got a metal rod about two feet long and a lump hammer he put one end of the rod on the starter and gave the other end a wallop with the hammer and it started straight away. |

Sounds like the stater motor as said, the other option to free it is rock the car in first gear. Might be tricky with a FL2 though! |

I used to work with a colleague back in the 80's who had a Renault with a sticking starter, he did the same, each night when going home down in the office car park he used to open the bonnet and give the starter a wack with his hammer then off he'd go.

I once lived in a flat and one morning noticed a guy down the street trying to start his Ford Cortina. He opened the bonnet and clearly hadn't a clue but he did undo the radiator cap and then went indoors and came out with a kettle of water and topped up the radiator. He took the kettle back indoors, came out and closed the bonnet and the car started first time. My guess is that he had flooded it and it just needed time for the petrol to evaporate out of the carb but from the proud look on his face he thought he had cured the problem. |

Sound very much like the starter motor I used to get the same with a Hillman Hunter which had a pre engaged link to the flywheel which used to click as the gear was pushed forward to engage by the starter motor. I use to use hammer to free it which worked for a while until it failed all together. |

It sounds very much like the starter motor solenoid contacts are giving up.
