Meridian Audio - HiLine to Premium Surround! - COMPLETED!

Not to get too many people excited but my invesitgation into my DAB module has uncovered that the only significant difference between the Meridian HiLine Audio and Premium is the extra speakers.
I will need to confirm this at a later date but it appears the module is the same for both. Once you've added the extra speakers all that is needed is to activate the system via CCF.
I will need to confirm once ive been able to access part details but from the module diagram and explanations in front of me they are one in the same.

It must have at least an upgrade of the amplifier as it is I think 825w as opposed to 325w of the midline system!

What Model/MY? Do you have speakers in your rear pillars. Meridian? I don't understand otherwise! Thumbs Up
I purely stumbled across this and would only do it if its the case. MY15

I must have mis-understood your post I have the lesser power meridian system in my my13 XS with no rear pillar speakers and just mentioned the additional power of the premium audio as probably also significant .

Let me clarify!
The only hardware difference appears to be with the speakers. So once you add the extra speakers all you need to do is edit the ICE module to gain the extra features, but I still need to confirm module part numbers as it appears to be on the parts schematic. MY15

Hello gents.

First post for a while.

I have a dynamic my14 and was thinking of this modification. Is the wiring available behind the panels on the D pillars. I was hoping everything would be there and it would be a case of purchasing the covers and speakers. If the wires are there it could be possible to check for mV on the wiring when the stereo is on. Then it'll be a plug and play. Here's hoping.

Wiring for speakers is all there, you will also need to replace the amplifier in the boot which is about 700 pounds. I have all the information for the head units but haven't had a chance to verify everything but at this stage it looks like there is a difference between Hi-Line and Premium units. If this doesn't phase you then all that is needed is to change CCF. I have all the part nos if you need them. MY15

Don't forget that perceived volume is logarithmic ie a 100w amp only sounds twice as loud as a 10w and since speakers are very inefficient (just a few percent), heavier duty ones might actually be delivering less. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

This document is very helpful in seeing the difference between the 825W and 380W Meridian systems

http://media.meridian-audio.com/datasheets...-A4-ds.pdf

The Meridian Sound System is a 380-watt, 12-channel stereophonic system featuring 11 loudspeakers including a special dual-channel subwoofer.

The Meridian Surround Sound System is a full 15-channel stereo/surround system running 825 watts and driving 17 loudspeakers mounted around the vehicle cabin, including centre and surround loudspeakers.

Why aren't the number of channels the same as the number of speakers? The woofer has two-channel inputs, the surround speakers are co-axial, so two-in-one

It does appear according to the parts catalogue, that the speakers in the 380W system are the same as the 825W, the difference is the additional surround speakers. There are only the three additional surround speakers but all three are co-axial so that's where the six additional speakers statement comes from.

To upgrade from the 380W to the 825W appears to be only the different amplifier, and adding those 3/6 surround speakers.

It's similar to the concept of upgrading the earlier Alpine audio from the 9-speaker to the 14-speaker surround; add the speakers, change the amp, update the CCF to activate the amp. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Hey Jim! Thumbs Up

I Havn't come across that description in any of the literature/tech for this topic! Thank you to Cambo for the link and yes there is only two Meridian Systems used. Jim I'm guessing in the Evoke, which uses the same hardware that the reason for the different description is that the Evoke has extra options like television and surround camera systems which have to utilise the Meridian hardware, hence different description to the Freelander. It's also possible it's an accessory or entertainment Pak Description describing Meridian system and TV, fixed camera or surround camera added. Maybe check Evoke accessory specification descriptions.

In regard to your wife's Evoke the easiest way to identify if you have Hi-Line or Premium is to go into "settings" and if you have soft keys for Sub/Base/Terrible/Fad/bal only then you have Hi/Line. If "Meridian" or "Dolby Pro-Logic" etc soft keys are displayed then it's Premium.

In relation to the Freelander it's very easy to upgrade from Hi-Line to Premium.

Firstly wiring is identical between the systems.

The ICE Amplifier is located in the rear, drivers side, behind the wheel arch.
Hi-Line Amplifier is LR052494.
Premium Amplifier is LR045327 which is now supersedes to LR059385.

You will also need to change the head unit behind the Dash.
Hi-Line Unit is LR057333.
Premium unit is LR048038.

All that's required then is to add 3 more speakers

D-Pillar units LR001846 (left) LR001845 (Right)
Centre Dash speaker LR001695.

All other speakers are present in Hi-line system.

Last thing is a change to CCF and you have the upgrade.

I'm currently pretty impressed with the Hi-Line system so havn't done this upgrade as yet so if anyone wants to have a go and report back Thumbs Up MY15
